This policy explains the cookies and similar technologies Yardstick uses, why we use them, and how you can control them.
1. What cookies are
Cookies are small text files stored on your device by your browser. We also use similar local-storage technologies. Together they let a site remember your choices and understand how it is used. You are always in control: you choose what to allow, and you can change your mind at any time.
2. Our approach
Yardstick is privacy-first. We set no non-essential cookies until you opt in. Analytics and error monitoring stay dormant until you accept them in the cookie banner or via the Manage cookies link in the footer.
3. Categories we use
- Essential (always on): required to run Yardstick, including sign-in and session security, and to remember your cookie choice. The Service cannot function without these.
- Analytics (optional): product analytics to understand what is useful and improve it. Loads only with your consent.
- Error monitoring (optional): error and performance monitoring so we can catch and fix bugs. Loads only with your consent.
We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
4. The tools behind each category
- Cookie choice (essential): we store your preference in your browser’s local storage (
yardstick:cookie-consent) so we do not ask again on every visit. - Authentication (essential): a secure session cookie keeps you signed in to the app at app.yardstick.fi.
- PostHog (analytics, EU-hosted): product analytics. Loads only after you accept analytics, and creates profiles only for identified, signed-in users.
- Plausible (analytics, optional): privacy-friendly, cookieless traffic statistics.
- Sentry (error monitoring): captures errors and performance data to keep the Service reliable.
5. Managing your choices
Open Manage cookies in the footer at any time to change what you allow. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings, though disabling essential cookies may break parts of the Service.
6. Changes
We may update this policy as our tools change. We will post the new version here and update the date above.
